The Minority in Parliament has fiercely criticised the passage of the GHS1-per-litre levy on petroleum products, describing it as “midnight robbery” against Ghanaians. According to the caucus, the levy was sneaked through Parliament without proper transparency, public consultation, or notice, unlike previous taxes such as the E-Levy, which were openly debated. Parliament passed the Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Bill, 2025, on June 3, introducing a GHS1 additional charge on every litre of fuel. The government expects to raise GHS5.7 billion through the levy to support energy sector debt payments and purchase thermal fuel for power generation. Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel…

This outcome, while reflecting some improvement in financial performance, continues to underline the challenging fiscal and operational environment in which the central bank is functioning. The report identifies three major contributors to the 2024 operating loss.…

This was made known by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Food, Aquaculture and Cocoa Affairs, Dr Godfred Seidu Jasaw, at a stakeholders’ meeting in Accra on Friday. The meeting was to finalise a draft Fisheries bill that will help bring sanity…

These concerns were brought to the attention of the speaker by the Chairman of the Assurances Committee and Member of Parliament for Bimbilla, Dominic Nitiwul. The former Defence Minister in the erstwhile…
