Joe Anokye, the former Technology Executive of the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in the United States of America (USA) has been as extraordinary Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA) since his appointment in 2017.
The story behind his move to join the NPP campaign in Ghana and eventually the NCA boss is fascinating.
A picture posted by private legal practitioner, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko on Facebook in September 2014, shows him ( Gabby) with Mr Anokye, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, a.k.a. Chairman Wontumi who is the current Ashanti Regional Minister, and Richard Adjei Mensah Ofori Atta, a.k.a. Tom Tom, the current Manhyia South Constituency Chairman of the NPP, after a meeting in the USA.
Accompanying message
In a message accompanying the photo, Gabby wrote: “This picture was taken in 2014 when Gabby assured NASA chap Joe Anokye in his house is Maryland, USA, that Akufo-Addo will ensure that an entirely new position of Director of IT will be created for the NPP campaign and party for him to head so he should take the bold decision to quit and return to Ghana. Joe did after meeting Nana Akufo-Addo back and the rest as they say, is history.”
Achievements
Since his appointment as NCA boss, Mr Anokye has exhibited dedication to duty, and a penchant for excellence and visionary leadership.
According to the NCA, “His dexterity for flawless execution undergirded by purposeful planning, team work, thorough preparation and test runs led to the successful completion of many projects aimed at transforming the NCA’s internal processes and improving the performance of the communications industry in Ghana.
“He has overseen the widespread deployment of tools and systems to improve the NCA’s performance in licensing, monitoring and enforcement which are core statutory functions of the Authority.“
