Driver’s license will be renewed every eight or 10 years, says Dr. Bawumia

The presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mahamudu Bawumia has said he will ensure that driver’s license will be renewed every eight or 10 years if voted to be president come 7 December.

Bawumia said the current DVLA system where a driver must renew his/her license every two year is an inconvenience for drivers hence a need to extend the renewal date from the date of issue.

The president candidate of the NPP was speaking in Akwatia during a campaign tour of the Eastern Region last weekend.

“… Today, the driver’s license expires every two years. Let us extend it, be it 8 years or 10 years. Let us make sure you can have a driver’s license without having to renew it every year. It does not make sense and so by the grace of God we would make changes,” Bawumia said.

Currently, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) which is mandated to promote good driving standards and ensure the use of road-worthy vehicles, all driver’s license holders must renew or validate their licenses every two years from the date of issue of the license.

Constituency-focused campaign

The NPP presidential candidate’s constituency-focused campaign tour in the Eastern Region also took him to Nsawam Adoagyiri, Ayensuano and Suhum constituencies.

While engaging chiefs, heads of religious bodies and a cross section of society in these constituencies, Bawumia made the point that in this election, Ghana needs a new leader with fresh and innovative ideas and a mindset to craft and implement bold solutions for the future.

“We don’t need to go back to a leader who woefully failed and only fulfilled 28% of his promises as President even in the absence of the sort of global economic crisis we have faced recently.”

“Let’s look forward and not backward.”
