Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has made his first public statement since leaving office on January 7, 2025.

For a month since handing over power to President John Dramani Mahama, the former President who was in power for eight years, has gone on the quiet sending tongues wagging.

But, yesterday, February 9, Nana Akufo-Addo issued a statement following the passing of founding President of Namibia, Sam Nujoma.

Nujoma, who led a guerrilla war for independence against South Africa’s vastly superior forces, died on Saturday. He was 95.

Akufo-Addo’s statement
The statement read;
“I am deeply saddened by the death of H.E. Dr. Sam Nujoma, Founding President of the Republic of Namibia and one of the heroes of African liberation.

“The late First President of Namibia’s life would continue to be celebrated for his heroic leadership of the people of Namibia not only in the fight for independence from colonial rule, but in laying the foundation for a secure, prosperous and democratic nation.

“I join the many Africans and others around the world in conveying my condolences to President Nangolo Mbumba and the people of Namibia, his widow, children and the leadership of his SWAPO party.”
