Free SHS has transformed lives in Ghana – Napo

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has highlighted how the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy has positively affected girl-child education in Ghana.

He referenced data from Africa Education Watch, stating that more than 2.5 million students have gained from this policy, with a notable rise in female enrollment.

During the launch of the Matthew Opoku Prempeh Hostel at the University of Professional Studies in Accra (UPSA) on November 19, he urged Ghanaians to back leaders who are dedicated to meaningful initiatives as the December 7 elections approach.

“Ghana is at a crucial point. We need to elect leaders who will bring real change, not just those seeking votes for their own gain. We should not vote based on emotions or clichés; we need to focus on practical changes that improve lives.

“Many forget that nearly 100,000 students each year were unable to attend school because the end certificate was the BECE. They passed but couldn’t enter secondary school, and the BECE certificate doesn’t qualify them for jobs.

These 100,000 students were excluded from our system. Free SHS has changed their lives.”
