NPP presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has called on Ghanaians taking part in today’s special voting to come out in their numbers and cast their votes for him and NPP parliamentary candidates. In a video shared on his social media handles ahead of the exercise, Dr Bawumia explained that a vote for him means progress and development. The elections will take place in 14 regions, with exception of Eastern and Western Regions which have been postponed to Thursday.

Security services

Taking a look at the security services, Dr Bawumia said, “Your dedication has not gone in vain. We inherited a security sector facing numerous challenges from internal disputes to a stretched thin workforce . “The need for a comprehensive reforms was clear. We have significantly bolstered our ranks across the security services.” Dr Bawumia said the Ghana Police Service now boasts of over 46,000 officers, almost 13,000 more than the NPP inherited. “Fire Service personnel had doubled to 15,000. Our prisons service and immigration service have seen similar growth in numbers,” he stated. He also said the NPP government has massively provided tools and infrastructure. “Over 900 vehicles and 3 helicopters have been added to the police service. State-of-the-art surveillance systems including over 11,000 cameras have been deployed. “We have also improved the living conditions of personnel.”

Media

For the media, Dr Bawumia said, “We’ve created a conducive atmosphere for the media to thrive . “We introduced the Right to Information Bill. We have expanded broadband and internet services across the country and introduced the University of Media Arts and Communications. With the introduction of 5G services in Ghana, your work is even going to thrive better.“
