The passage of the Affirmative Action Bill is a victory for Ghanaian women, Alma Pokua Adade Prempeh, wife of the NPP vice presidential candidate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has said.

She said it was a 36 year-long journey for the bill to make it into the country’s stature books, and therefore paid tribute to President Akufo-Addo’s government for its tenacity in ensuring that this came to fruition.

Delivering the keynote speech as Guest Speaker at the Affirmative Action Conference at the Accra International Conference Centre on Monday, November 4, she was confident that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s unflinching belief in inclusivity will be brought to bear to ensure that under his government, the country will continue its march towards building a fair and equitable society to collective benefits.

“The leadership of a party that believes in possibilities has facilitated the passage and assent of this bill within seven and half years,“ she said.

The conference
The conference was organised by the Office of the National Gender Commissioner of the Graduates Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG) in collaboration with the All African Students Union (AASU).

It was on the theme, “The Passing of the Affirmative Action Bill: A Win for All Ghanaian Women: Exploring Best Practices and Opportunities to Empower Women”.

Sustainable systems
Mrs Prempeh who is a Chartered Global Management Accountant, said her profession has seen her involved in examining inclusive policies and sustainable systems and how they can create economic growth and drive societal progress. “This bill is a crucial step forward in building such systems, as it acknowledges the need for balanced representation and access to opportunities for all women, irrespective of their background or socioeconomic status,” she emphasized.
