After Presidency Intervention: Group Calls for Fair Govt-Adamus Talks

A group of concerned citizens has called for transparent and fair deliberations between the government and Adamus Resources Limited, following the presidency’s decision to grant the mining firm a 12-month window to revive its operations.

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources had earlier revoked the company’s mining leases, sparking an outcry from the group, which alleged a “carefully orchestrated plot” to take over the firm and vowed to expose the powerful figures behind it. However, the presidency later intervened, issuing a directive that gives Adamus one year to turn around its production and financial performance.

Reacting to the new directive, the group welcomed the opportunity for dialogue but stressed that talks must be balanced. “Fair deliberations between the government and Adamus will ensure the company emerges even stronger to play its role in national development,” a spokesperson said.

They cautioned authorities against imposing decisions unilaterally during the negotiations.

Robust force
The group also urged Adamus’ management to use the meetings to reposition itself as a robust force in Ghana’s mining sector.

Meanwhile, they issued a stern warning: “We are watching developments closely and will come out strongly to expose any underhand dealings that may work against the company.”

Bentil
In a related development, Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, who also opposed the revocation of the company’s leases, has advised Adamus to take the government’s decision seriously. “The reprieve is an opportunity to preserve the mine. We’ve got our job as citizens to speak up for them. If they let this slip by, I don’t think they will have any other opportunity,” he said.

Background
The government directed the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Minerals Commission, and Adamus to jointly develop a 12-month turnaround roadmap, to be overseen by a six-member management team—three representatives from Adamus and three from the government.

The roadmap aims to address operational inefficiencies and secure the mine’s long-term viability, with all parties now under pressure to deliver a constructive outcome.
