Former Auditor General Dominic Yao Domelevo says the new ministers who were sworn in On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, should have declared their assets before being sworn in.

President John Dramani Mahama swore in six ministers at the Jubilee House in Accra. He urged them to declare their assets.

In an interview with Joy FM on Thursday, January 23, Domelevo noted that requiring ministers to declare their assets and liabilities before taking office would promote transparency and help build public trust in the government.

This step, he suggests, would be a significant move towards curbing corruption and fostering a culture of accountability within the political landscape of Ghana.

“If I were the president, thankfully I am not the president, but I would have told them, after going through vetting and all of that, go and declare your assets and liabilities before I swear you in,” Domelevo stated.

He further added, “This simple yet powerful measure can serve as a cornerstone in Ghana’s fight against corruption and set the tone for a more accountable government.”
