The flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has made a significant commitment to bolster the agricultural sector in Ghana by pledging to establish processing plants in every district that demonstrates excellence in the cultivation of specific agricultural products.

This initiative is a key component of his broader strategy aimed at revitalizing and enhancing the agricultural landscape of the nation.

Dr. Bawumia articulated that this policy will not only facilitate the creation of district agricultural mechanization centers but will also ensure that farmers gain access to modern farming equipment, thereby increasing productivity and efficiency in the sector.

During his visit to the Ashanti Region on Monday, November 4, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the critical importance of agriculture to the Ghanaian economy and society.

He stated, “Agriculture will be the top focus of my administration because most Ghanaians are farmers. With over 60% of the population involved in farming, if farmers thrive financially, Ghana will also thrive.”

This statement underscores his recognition of the pivotal role that agriculture plays in the livelihoods of many Ghanaians and the overall economic health of the country.

In his vision for the future of agriculture in Ghana, Dr. Bawumia expressed his intention to provide comprehensive support to farmers.

This support will encompass financial assistance, access to advanced technology, irrigation systems, and expert guidance, drawing parallels to the successful Planting for Food and Jobs initiative.

His goal is to empower farmers engaged in competitive crop production by equipping them with the necessary processing facilities, which will enable them to add value to their produce and enhance their income potential.

As he wrapped up his regional tours, Dr. Bawumia placed particular emphasis on the Ashanti Region, recognizing its significance for the NPP’s electoral success. He acknowledged the region’s vital role in the party’s political strategy and expressed his commitment to addressing the needs and aspirations of its residents.

In addition to his agricultural agenda, Dr. Bawumia also addressed mining issues during his visit to Atwima Mponua, a notable mining area within the Ashanti Region.

He assured the community that his government would advocate for responsible mining practices, emphasizing the importance of sustainable resource management.

He outlined plans to utilize Geological Survey maps to accurately identify gold locations and to issue licenses that would allow miners to operate without facing harassment.

This approach aims to create a more conducive environment for mining activities while ensuring that the rights and safety of miners are upheld.

Overall, Dr. Bawumia’s initiatives reflect a comprehensive approach to enhancing agriculture.
